The Tai O Fishing village is famous for the traditional Chinese stilt houses. It is often called the Venice of the Orient. Tai O is one of few remaining fishing villages of its kind.
You can stroll around the narrow streets and see the markets selling Tai O specialties like salted fish, dried seafood, shrimp paste and fish sauces. There are also many snack stands selling cooked fresh local seafood.
We took a boat ride around the village and to the ocean trying to spot the famous pink dolphin. Unfortunately we were not lucky on that day. No dolphins were spotted.
If you are on Lantau Island visiting the Big Buddha or going with the Cable Car Ngong Ping, you should use the oppurtunity and visit Tai O as well. We took the bus from Ngong Ping Village.
