Iceland is a part of Europe. But geographically Iceland is located in both Europe and North America because the mid-Atlantic rift runs through Iceland and splits it in half. One half is on the Norh American Tectonic plate and the other half is on the Eurasian Tectonic plate. You can actually see the crack between them. The tectonic plates drift away from each other a few centimeters per year. Which is actually very fast and causes earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

The Bridge between continents is a bridge over the crack between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates.

The Bridge between Continents

You can walk between Europe and North America in a few seconds. On one side of the Bridge is a sign, which says “Welcome to Europe” and on the other side a sign “Welcome to America”.

Reykjanes

The bridge is named after Leif Eiriksson. He was an Icelandic Viking, who discovered America over 1000 years ago.
