Kerið
The Golden Circle is a popular route in South Iceland. It can be accomplished in one day. We drove ourselves and our first stop was the volcano Kerið.
Kerið means basin or tub. It is a small volcano and lies just by the road and you must be careful not to miss out this natural wonder. The parking lot is just beside the road and a few footsteps away from Kerið. They charge a small fee for entering.
The caldera is made of red and orange lava which covers the surroundings. Inside the crater is water. Due to minerals in the soil the color of the water is deep green and makes a beautiful contrast. The volcanic eruption of Kerið happened about 3000 years ago. The lava landscape around makes this place unique.
