In Icelandic folklore, Elves are called Huldufólk (Hidden People). They are supernatural beings, who live in a parallel world. They live in nature, in big Rocks. They look and behave similarly to humans but they are not visible to humans. They can however make themselves visible at will.

If you go hiking in Iceland, be careful with big rocks. They can be habitatued by elves. Many big lava rocks are called Churches of Elves. They should be left alone.

It has often happened by roadwork in Iceland that the removal of Elves Rocks has not been accomplished due to break down of equipment or other accidents. The road path was then changed to go around the Elves Rock.

Watch out for Elves in Iceland!

The Elves are not bad people. But they should be treated with respect. If you do not respect them, something bad can happen to you. You should always ask the Elves permission if you want to visit their homes.
