In the Geysir area there are many geothermal hot springs all over. The boiling water bubbles out of the ground everywhere. Be careful not to walk outside the marked path. The ground can be unstable in geothermal active areas and the water is boiling hot. The biggest spring Geysir itself. It used to erupt over 100m high, but now it doesn’t erupt anymore. Close by is another spring named Strokkur. It erupts every few minutes about 20m high.

A short drive from Geysir is Iceland biggest waterfall, Gullfoss. That means Golden Waterfall. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Iceland. It is beautiful in any season. Due to the mass of water falling down, there is a spray of water and forms a beautiful rainbow. You can walk close to the waterfall and feel the immence force of the water.
